Mohneesh Rai
Assistant Professor of Law
Mohneesh Rai is an Assistant Professor of Law at Manipal Law School, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Bengaluru. His interests sit at the intersection of critical legal studies, caste and gender studies, criminal justice and transformative constitutionalism, with particular focus on how structural violence is produced and reproduced through banal legal processes. He holds an LL.M. in Law and Development from Azim Premji University, Bengaluru (2024), and a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from NALSAR University of Law Hyderabad (2020). He is an advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Rajasthan and has qualified the UGC-NET in Law, as well as the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). He was a National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholar in 2012. Before entering academia, he was an Associate Legal Manager at ITC Limited, Kolkata, where he drafted and negotiated commercial agreements, advised on litigation strategy and compliance, and worked on IP strategy and litigation. He has previously been associated with Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He has also appeared for the Rajasthan Judicial Services (Mains) Examination. His writing has appeared in the Oxford Human Rights Hub Blog, The Wire, The Columbia University’s RightsViews Blog, covering civil society regulation under FCRA, housing and the right to life for Delhi’s slum dwellers, and electoral accessibility for the disabled population in Rajasthan. His passionate about football, music and books and travelling.
