Department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore in collaboration with constituent Dental colleges of Mangalore namely Yenepoya Dental College, AJ Institute of Dental Sciences and Srinivas Institute of Dental Sciences conducted various events over a period of two days (23rd-24th Feb 2024) to commemorate the National Oral Pathologists Day. The National Oral Pathologist day is celebrated every year on 25th Feb in the memory of eminent Oral Pathologist Dr HM Dholakia. Dr. Dholakia holds the distinct honor of being the first postgraduate teacher of Oral Pathology in India, by starting the first postgraduate course in this subject at Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai, in 1960.
To inculcate the interest in the subject of oral pathology and improve the knowledge and importance of oral pathology the commemoration kickstarted with events like SDL (self-directed learning) presentations and histo-rangoli by undergraduate students on Day 1 while the Day 2 was filled with interesting events like oral-pathology themed treasure hunt followed by clinico-pathologic case presentations by Interns of all the colleges. Undergraduate students, interns, and postgraduate students of the four colleges came and actively participated in good numbers making the event a cumulative success. The events were followed by the valedictory program which was presided over by the Associate Deans Dr Junaid Ahmed and Dr Arathi Rao and Head of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery Dr Dharnappa Poojary. The valedictory concluded with the distribution of the prizes to the winners in each category.
